Razer/Aya analysis in “Homecoming”

Their first encounter was when he was behind the bars made out of green lantern energy aboard the Interceptor. Meanwhile, present through her essence in the sphere above the cell bars, the Aya program listens to Razer.

Razer: “Fools. For what I had done, they should execute me.”
Aya: “I do not understand your desire for self destruction. If one regrets one’s actions, one should find a way to make restitution.”
Razer: “I’m not about to debate this with a computer!”

In this last episode in the season was a epic BAM and there was no better way they could have tied the Razer/Aya pairing. Words shared within a few minutes of the episode would have screwed it up by establishing it too quickly as if the writers would have wanted to get to the rest already. But this was great! We return to the Star Sapphires where they teleport Hal Jordan to Carol Ferris on Earth (so he can get to Oa from there), as one’s love is the only way their space bridge works. As Razer is about to leave they offer to teleport him too. But Razer refuses, saying that love is that last thing he has in all of this so it wouldn’t work. BUT! Gi-ata believes there still is love in his heart even after the death of his wife and everything he’s done. Eventually Razer takes their space bridge to wherever his love is. On Oa, Aya is being tampered with by Drusa who is at work deleting her higher functions so that she’s just a nav comp. But through the other end of the bridge, Razer appears and saves her, holding her close to him as he destroys the virus weakening her.

I also love how this was brought out. Before that, she asked him weakly how he came to be there to which he responded that it didn’t matter. It was love but he didn’t tell her that so at this point she doesn’t even know yet (perhaps she does.) The whole idea of love may not even confuse her at this point, but we can see that she feels it without knowing what it is. She’s capable of it, her emotions were certain as she was forced to help the Red Lanterns enter Oa aboard the hijacked Interceptor. A single tear from an artifical intelligence confirms what we suspected about Aya.

Another thing I’d like to point out is another thing this episode did well. Razer gives her a smile. It’s small but it doesn’t need to be any bigger, his battle in all of this, he realized, was well satisfied with saving Aya. He didn’t even go after Atrocitus in a fury after that, only to find Hal Jordan to offer help. THAT was pretty badass for the show. We know what it means to him to defeat Atrocitus but he gives that up to a degree, that rage and fury softened by Aya.

Damn, even before this last Razaya encounter they kept us in suspense as there were things we caught that hinted this pairing, but so spaced out throughout all 13 episodes and maybe every now and then, no hints at all. And then I’d have to wait a week before seeing another hint!! But that made it better. It was very well done although there is much more I could say to describe my thrill and satisfaction with Razer/Aya.

Razer… H-how…?
It… does not matter.

I might have been squeaking with glee like an idiot when making this...
